I promise you I didn’t make it up!
Last night I popped into the launch of the new D&AD Book at the Getty Images Gallery. I wondered around glugging wine and snatching canapés off passing trays, not really knowing many people apart from Dick Powell, who I knew from the RCA. Anyway he introduced me to Bob & Roberta Smith, not two people but one, fine-artist Patrick Brill, famous for his witty, brightly coloured painted lettering on banners and discarded bits of wood. Bob & Robert or Bob as I called him and I, had a very pleasant chat about children (me bragging about being a new Dad and all that). Bob’s wife arrived who I assumed to be Roberta but obviously wasn’t and he was whisked away for chats with people who actually knew who he was! Bob & Roberta was chosen by outgoing D&AD President, Paul Brazier to design the Book, and on my train ride home I found myself flicking quickly through the pages of work and spending more time admiring the section divider spreads. Good job Bob…and Roberta.
